TAV. 03 — The model, in brief

Five and a half metres,
nine people

The NAVY 5.50 is the centre-console RIB that takes the whole family aboard without giving up an agile boat: 5.50 metres overall, a 2.35 m beam, 9 people of capacity, an outboard of up to 115 hp. • Capacity: up to 9 people, CE design category C.
  • Engine: up to 115 hp, Honda, Yamaha or Mercury outboard, not included in the price and chosen with you.

  1. First, a line

    Tubes · hull · console · roll-bar

In the dark the brass traces the run of the tubes, the cut of the hull, the console in the middle and the arch of the roll-bar. The 5.50 starts here: from a stroke that Italian engineers and designers drew before any mould was made.

  2. Then the measurements, the real ones

    Length 5.50 m · beam 2.35 m

The dimensions climb to the figure on the data sheet: 5.50 metres overall, a 2.35 m beam, tubes 50 centimetres in diameter. No figure here is typed by hand: they all come from the model's data.

  3. Then the materials

Fibreglass · ORCA fabric 1.3 mm

The light rises and the drawing thins out. Under the lines the boat is already there: hull, deck and console in fibreglass with extra-thick laminate, ORCA Hypalon-neoprene tubes glued by hand and pressure-tested.

  4. The drawing fills in. It is a NAVY.

Up to 9 people · from €15,900 + VAT · engine not included

A blade of light crosses the plate and under the lines there she is, with the NAVY 550 lettering aft. Nine people, an engine of up to 115 horsepower: what do you have in mind for her?

Chapter 01 — The hull and the fibreglass

A V-hull
that cuts the wave

Fibreglass with extra-thick laminate · white or black · 300 kg dry

The hull of the 5.50 is laminated fibreglass, laid up in moulds designed by Italian engineers and designers, with laminate thicknesses greater than what the market considers normal. The V-hull enters the wave instead of slamming into it: it is the difference between a day at sea and a day of jolts, and you feel it on the very first outing, in the quieter planing and in the wheel that stays light when the wind picks up.

The finish is a marine gelcoat that shields the surface from sun, salt and abrasion. Hull, deck, stern platforms and console come in white or black, and stay glossy over the years with a simple rinse. Up to 15 years' warranty: we say it because we follow the build ourselves, one boat at a time.

Chapter 02 — The ORCA tubes

Fifty centimetres
of Hypalon-neoprene

ORCA fabric by Pennel & Flipo · 1.3 mm · Ø 50 cm

The tubes of the 5.50 are 50 centimetres in diameter and made of ORCA fabric by Pennel & Flipo, the French company that has been making coated fabrics for over a hundred years. It is Hypalon-neoprene on a polyester core: it withstands sunlight without fading, the abrasion of quaysides, fuel and oil, heat and cold, and holds its air year after year. Tensile strength exceeds 500 daN per 5 centimetres.

The thickness we fit from the 4.80 to the 7.60 is 1.3 mm: not the cheapest fabric, but the one that best resists knocks, chafing and the passing seasons. Every tube is cut, glued with two-part adhesives, welded two or three times at the critical joints, then pressure-tested and visually inspected before it goes onto the hull. As standard you choose it in Notte Profonda, Pietra Bianca or Blu Navy; the other 26 ORCA colours are available on request.

Chapter 03 — The bow and the deck

Teak underfoot,
the sun on your back

Teak bow platform · sunpad · EVA teak-effect decking in 24 shades

When the 5.50 is running, the bow is the part you look at: the teak platform reaches out beyond the tube and serves as a step for getting aboard and into the water, with the reinforced anchor locker beneath it. Right behind, the two-cushion sunpad fills the whole width between the tubes: two people lying down, or four sitting with their legs dangling over the water.

The standard decking is EVA synthetic teak: as warm to look at as wood, soft underfoot, non-slip even when wet, with no oiling or sanding, just a rinse. It comes in 24 shades, with plank and seam in contrast, and is trimmed by hand to the geometry of the deck. Those who want real wood choose solid natural teak, 8-12 mm thick, laid on marine adhesive: it is an option on the price list.

Chapter 04 — The console and the seats

A black console,

Centre console complete with instruments · Standard upholstery as standard · Lusso on request

The centre console of the 5.50 is a glossy fibreglass shell with a stainless grab rail all the way round, a smoked windscreen and the instruments already fitted: it is the «centre console complete with instruments» line of the price list, with no hidden extras. In front, the forward-facing seat with the Naviglia Yachts logo; behind, the helm seat with its backrest, to drive standing or sitting.

The standard upholstery is the Standard line, in smooth marine leather treated against sun, salt and mould: it cleans with a sponge. The Lusso line, diamond-quilted with heat-sealed stitching, comes in 14 colours and on the 5.50 is priced in the quote. Wheel and steering are chosen separately: mechanical with the engine cables, or hydraulic for outputs from 75 to 150 hp, with an all-stainless wheel.

The materials you touch · real photographs taken on board

Teak, real teak
and upholstery

The 5.50 is fitted out with the same materials as the whole NAVY range, and these we photograph for real on board our boats: the EVA decking with the engraved logo, the natural teak planking, the quilted upholstery with the embroidered compass rose. They are the three choices that decide how the deck is lived on.

FIG. 11 — On board a NAVY 7.60 · Naviglia Yachts logo with compass rose and ITALY lettering engraved in the teak-effect deck.

Synthetic EVA teak

Standard on the 5.50. A material born for boating: it reproduces the warmth of teak, is lighter and softer underfoot, stays non-slip when wet and asks for no oiling or sanding. It resists sunlight, salt and weather without fading; the black or grey seams draw the deck. Twenty-four shades in the sample book, trimmed by hand on steps, platforms and walkways.

Solid natural teak

An option on the price list, in 8 to 12 mm planks laid on polyurethane or epoxy marine adhesive, over a waterproofing layer and the fibreglass panels of the deck. Teak is a tropical wood rich in oily resins: it withstands temperature swings, salt, damp, pests and mould, does not warp and ages well. Warm underfoot, steady even when wet, it keeps the value of the boat high over the years.

Standard and Lusso
upholstery

Two lines, one constant: marine fabrics chosen to withstand sun, salt and damp. The Standard line, fitted as standard, is smooth marine leather, compact, easy to clean, understated. The Lusso line is diamond-quilted with heat-sealed stitching, stain- and mould-resistant, in 14 colours: on the 5.50 it is an option we price in the quote, with the logo embroidered on the backrests.

TAV. 15 — The engines for the 5.50

From 40 to 115 hp,
the brand is your choice

Honda, Yamaha and Mercury are the outboards we fit to the NAVY range. The engine is excluded from the list price and chosen separately; the maximum in the catalogue is 115 hp, and for each output the engine is quoted together with the model you choose. On the 5.50 there are two roads. With 40 hp you sail in Italy without a boating licence within 6 miles of the coast, because the law allows it with an engine of up to 30 kW (40.8 hp) and within the displacement limits: it is the choice of those without a licence, of rental operators and of sailing schools. With 115 hp the 5.50 becomes the boat for long days out, with nine people on board and the 135-litre tank. We fit the engine, test it and quote it together with the boat: so you have the final figure in front of you.

Equal weight for all three: the right outboard depends on how you go to sea, not on the badge. If you already own an engine, we assess it on the 5.50: we need the plate data. How much power you need · The NAVY boats for licence-free use

The comparison

The 5.50 next to
its neighbours

Below the 5.50 sits the 4.80, above it the 6.00: half a metre more or less changes the number of people, the weight and the engine it needs. Choose two models: the silhouettes line up at the stern in true scale and the table keeps only the two columns you need.

Questions about the 5.50

Frequently asked
questions

The questions we receive about the 5.50, with the answer we give in person: licence, people, engine, price, lead times, trailer. One at a time: opening one closes the other.

Can the NAVY 5.50 be driven without a boating licence?

Yes, with the right engine. In Italy the licence depends on the engine, not on the boat: within 6 miles of the coast no licence is needed if the outboard does not exceed 30 kW (40.8 hp) and the engine displacement limits set by law, 1,000 cc for a four-stroke outboard. With a 40 hp engine the 5.50 stays within these limits; you must be 18 for boats registered as imbarcazioni and 16 for natanti. Beyond 6 miles, or with the 115 hp engine, a licence is always required.

How many people does the 5.50 really carry?

The rated capacity is 9 people, in CE design category C. On board the seating is the bow sunpad, the forward-facing console seat, the helm seat and the stern bench. For a comfortable day out, with bags and children, the right size is understood by stepping aboard: that is why we invite you to see it in person.

Which engine do you recommend on the 5.50?

It depends on how you go to sea. With 40 hp you sail without a licence within 6 miles of the Italian coast: the choice of those who take the family out along the shore, of rental operators and of sailing schools. Those who hold a licence and want long days out go up to 115 hp. The brand, Honda, Yamaha or Mercury, is your choice; for outputs of 75 hp and above we recommend hydraulic steering, which is an option on the price list. The engine is quoted together with the boat.

Does the list price include the engine and VAT?

No. The list price of the 5.50 is from €15,900 + VAT · engine not included, that is €19,398.00 incl. 22% Italian VAT. The outboard is chosen separately by output and brand and we put it in the quote together with the boat, with several engine proposals: so you have the final figure in front of you before you decide.

How long does it take to get one?

The 5.50 is built to order, one boat at a time: about 3 months from order confirmation. If at that moment we have one in stock, we tell you straight away and the lead time drops to 7 working days. For next season it is worth confirming the order early: it is the way to secure your place in production. We do not promise dates we cannot keep.

Can the 5.50 go on a trailer? Is one included?

Yes, the 5.50 travels by road: it weighs 300 kg dry without engine and has a 2.35 m beam. The trailer is not included in the list price: the «trailer for a 5.5 m boat» line costs €4,800 + VAT and goes in the quote if you want it. The full boat cover is another option on the price list.

Is there a shower on board? And a water tank?

As standard the 5.50 has the 135-litre fuel tank, the bilge pumps and the anchor locker. The shower with its 50-litre tank is an option on the price list, at €738 + VAT: you add it if you want to rinse off after a swim. The anchor windlass with roller and the boarding ladder behind the tubes are options too.

Is it suitable for a rental business or a sailing school?

Yes. For licence-free hire the right models are the NAVY 5.50 or the 6.00 with a 40 hp engine; a single engine brand for the whole fleet is the sensible choice. We prepare the quote in the company's name, with transport included in the figure: we just need to know how many boats you need, for which area and for what kind of use. The delivery schedule is agreed on confirmation.
