Honda · Yamaha · Mercury · ORCA Pennel & Flipo · Garmin · and the NAVY brand

A NAVY is made of choices, and every choice carries a name. The design, the fibreglass and the fit-out are signed by us; for what pushes the boat, for what holds the air and for what brings you home in the evening we chose companies that have been doing it for decades. Here you will find who they are, what they really do on a RIB and how you choose between them.

PLATE 02 — Who signs what

The NAVY is signed by us.
The rest has a name

Three outboard brands with equal standing, Honda, Yamaha and Mercury: you choose the make and we quote it together with the boat, so the final figure is right in front of you. One fabric for the tubes, ORCA by Pennel & Flipo, in Hypalon-neoprene. One helm electronics brand, Garmin, chosen at quotation stage because no single set-up suits everyone. And one brand on the tube of all six models: NAVY, designed and fitted out by us.

HONDA · YAMAHA · MERCURY · EQUAL STANDING

In this photograph there is a Honda 250, because that is the one on our 7.60. On yours there may be a Honda, a Yamaha or a Mercury: you decide the make and the power, and the engine arrives fitted and tested together with the boat.

The fabric that holds the air is ORCA

PENNEL & FLIPO · HYPALON-NEOPRENE · 1.3 MM UP TO THE 7.60

From the 4.80 to the NAVY 7.60 the fabric is 1.3 mm thick; on the NAVY 9.50 Cabin the tubes are ORCA Hypalon-neoprene too. Every tube is glued by hand and pressure-tested before it goes onto the hull.

At the helm, the electronics are chosen together

GARMIN · CHARTPLOTTER · VHF · AT QUOTATION

Under the windscreen is where the instruments go. Someone who goes out on Sundays along the coast asks for a chartplotter and a radio; someone who crosses open water wants more. That is why the electronics are not in the list price: we put them in the quote, item by item.

THE BRAND OF OUR RIBS · SIX SIZES

The lettering on the tube is applied in relief and you can read it with your fingers. It is the brand of our RIBs, from 4.80 to 9.80 metres overall: we design it and we fit it out.

PLATE 04 — The wall of brands

Five brands,
none ahead of the others

We present them in the order you meet them on board, and we put the three outboards on the same level because that is how they stand in our price list: none of them is the «house» engine, each one is the right choice for someone. Touch a panel to enter the brand page: inside you will find who they are, what they fit on the NAVY and with which power ratings.

PLATE 05 — Brand 01 · Outboards

Seven horsepower in 1960,
a V8 today

Outboards · four-stroke · from F9.9 to F425 XTO

The first Yamaha outboard was called P-7: 7 hp, 123 cc, born in 1960 for the fishing boats of the Japanese coast. From there the road is all dated: the first four-stroke F9.9A in 1984, the F225A of 2001, the first four-stroke in the world above 200 hp, the F425A XTO of 2018 with direct petrol injection. In 2025 the brand turned seventy and changed its logo for the first time in 27 years.

On the NAVY one figure matters, and Yamaha publishes it engine by engine: the four-strokes from 30 to 115 hp declare between 94 and 185 kilos dry. On the transom of a 4.80 or a 6.00, where the 40 hp is the choice of those without a licence, every kilo is felt on the plane and alongside the quay. Those looking ahead already find the electric road, after Torqeedo joined the group in 2024.

The black that has run
since 1962

Outboards · four-stroke · FourStroke, Verado, V10

In 1962 Mercury presented the «1000», the first production outboard in the world with 100 hp, and it was also the first painted Phantom Black: since then black has been the signature of the house. In 1999 came SmartCraft, the network that lets the on-board systems talk to each other; in 2004 the Verado, the first production supercharged inline six; in 2011 the 150 FourStroke was presented at the Genoa Boat Show. In 2021 the 600 hp V12, the first V12 outboard in the world.

For Europe Mercury has its headquarters and a plant at Petit-Rechain, in Belgium, one of the group's nine plants, with more than 5,200 people. A detail our customers care about more than records: the V10s are tuned for 90-octane petrol, the kind from any filling station. On the NAVY 7.60, up to 350 hp with a single engine, and on the NAVY 9.50 Cabin, built for twin outboards, it is one of the three roads; which one is yours we decide together, at quotation.

The engine of
our sea trial

Outboards · four-stroke · ECOmo, BLAST, iST

The NAVY 7.60 we use for sea trials carries a Honda 250: it is the outboard you see in the real photographs on these pages. And on the new NAVY 9.50 Cabin we have also fitted two Honda BF350 V8s astern, the 350 hp presented in 2023. Honda builds four-stroke outboards only, and around that choice it has placed systems with precise names: ECOmo, which on the plane leans the mixture by up to 20 per cent, according to Honda's figures; BLAST, which helps a loaded boat get out of the water; iST, the electronic control that turns harbour manoeuvring into a matter of fingertips.

The V6 charges at 90 amps, up to 1,080 watts: fridge, chartplotter and windlass without a generator on board. From the BF40 upwards the engines talk to the console electronics over the NMEA 2000 network, the same language as the chartplotter. The 250 on our 7.60 you try yourself, at the wheel.

PLATE 08 — Brand 04 · Tubes

A certified fabric,
not a label

Tube fabric · Hypalon-neoprene · 1.3 mm up to the 7.60

The ORCA fabric arrives in rolls, each with its batch number, and this is how we make the tubes: cutting, bonding with two-part adhesives, double or triple hand-made seams where the joints work hardest, then the pressure test and a visual inspection on every tube. ORCA's RIB fabrics hold Bureau Veritas type approval to ISO 6185 for pleasure craft, and two of its references also to ISO 15372 for rescue boats: the same family of materials ends up on professional RIBs.

ORCA states a service life of up to 25 years for its fabrics with good maintenance, and a Hypalon-neoprene tube is repaired cold with neoprene adhesive: the fabric can be bought by the metre, in the same colour, even years later. Pennel & Flipo counts more than 500 references and 110 people. On the NAVY: 1.3 mm from the 4.80 to the 7.60, ORCA Hypalon-neoprene on the NAVY 9.50 Cabin too, 29 colours in the catalogue.

in Viareggio

Marine electronics · chartplotter · VHF · radar

In the NAVY configurator two items carry the brand name: the Garmin 723 GPS and the Garmin 115i VHF. The radio has Class D DSC distress calling with a built-in GPS: the call for help goes out with the position already inside it. The nautical charts are Navionics, a company from Viareggio that has been part of Garmin since 2017; since 2023 the group also includes JL Audio, alongside Fusion.

Garmin screens can be read at midday in August even through polarised sunglasses, Garmin states; with Wi-Fi and the ActiveCaptain app, chart and software updates take care of themselves, with no workshop. The right size: 5 to 7 inches on the NAVY up to 6 metres, 7 to 9 on the NAVY 7.60, 9 to 12 on the NAVY 9.50 Cabin, where radar also makes sense. In Italy the legal 24-month warranty applies, provided by the seller. Which set-up you need we write into the quote, item by item.

The NAVY brand · Naviglia Yachts

NAVY: the name on the tube
is signed by us

NAVY is the RIB brand of Naviglia Yachts, the Italian boating brand of Michelessi Corporation Srl. Six sizes, from the NAVY 4.80 to the NAVY 9.50 Cabin: 4.80 metres for the smallest, 9.80 metres overall for the largest. The design and the moulds are the work of Italian engineers and designers; the hull, deck, transom platforms and console are in fibreglass with increased thicknesses, in white or black. The rest is fit-out, and that is the part that decides whether a boat is yours or everyone's: 29 ORCA fabric colours for the tubes, 24 shades of teak-effect decking, 14 colours of quilted upholstery.

You recognise the brand by three signs. The NAVY lettering on the tube, in wide letters with a crossbar-less A, applied in relief. The Naviglia Yachts compass rose with the hull running through it, embroidered on the upholstery backrests and engraved into the decking, not glued on. And the way it is bought: directly from us, to order, one boat at a time, with no assembly line and no middlemen. Up to 15 years' warranty.

Three guides before

When brands come up, the questions that reach the office are always the same three: how much power is needed, why fabric and not PVC, what changes in a hull with increased thicknesses. The answers, with the real numbers, are here.

All the guides

Questions about the brands

Frequently asked
questions

Engines, tubes, electronics and the NAVY brand: the questions you ask us on the phone, with the answer we give out loud. One at a time: open one and the other closes.

Can I choose the make of the outboard myself?

Yes. Honda, Yamaha and Mercury are the outboards we fit on the NAVY, and we put them on the same level: you choose the make and the power, according to how you use the sea. The engine is not included in the list price precisely for this reason: we quote it together with the boat, with several proposals, so the final figure is right in front of you.

I already have an engine: will you fit it on the NAVY?

A NAVY is sold with or without an engine. If you already own the outboard, we assess the match on the model you have chosen: we need the engine's plate data. If it is compatible, we fit it ourselves.

What warranty does the engine have?

The engine is covered by its manufacturer's warranty, not by ours. Honda and Yamaha, for example, declare five years in Italy for pleasure use, on their terms and with servicing within the brand's network. The warranty on the RIB is another matter. Up to 15 years' warranty: we tell you about it on the dedicated page.

Why are the tubes in ORCA fabric and not PVC?

Because a RIB lives in sun and salt, often moored in the open, and Hypalon-neoprene withstands ultraviolet, salt and hydrocarbons better than PVC. ORCA states a service life of up to 25 years for its fabrics with good maintenance, and a Hypalon-neoprene tube can be repaired cold, with neoprene adhesive, even years later. It is the fabric ORCA also supplies for professional and rescue RIBs.

How thick is the tube fabric on the NAVY?

From the NAVY 4.80 to the NAVY 7.60 the ORCA fabric by Pennel & Flipo is 1.3 mm thick. On the NAVY 9.50 Cabin the tubes are in ORCA Hypalon-neoprene: we give you the full data together with the quote.

Are the Garmin electronics included in the price?

No. The helm electronics are chosen together with you at quotation stage, because someone who goes out on Sundays along the coast and someone who crosses open water have different needs: a chartplotter and a VHF in the first case, radar and autopilot in the second. Like the engine, the electronics are not included in the list price: you find them in the quote item by item, with the product name next to each one. In the configurator you will find the Garmin 723 GPS and the Garmin 115i VHF.

What is the NAVY brand?

NAVY is the RIB brand of Naviglia Yachts: six sizes, from the 4.80 to the NAVY 9.50 Cabin, designed and fitted out by us and sold directly to the people who will use them. You recognise it by the raised lettering on the tube and by the compass rose embroidered on the upholstery and engraved into the decking.

Can I see the engines and materials in person before deciding?

Yes, and it is the right way to choose: the ORCA fabric samples, the teak, the upholstery and the engine cowling are judged with your hands. Book your visit or a sea trial on our NAVY 7.60 powered by a Honda 250: we set the day together, and we can sort it out on WhatsApp.

A tube is hard to describe
and easy to touch

Five brands and one name on the tube: you have read about them. Now come and put your hands on them: the ORCA fabric on the samples, the cowling of the engine you have in mind, the screen switched on at the helm. Then try the 7.60 at sea, at the wheel. Which engine do you have in mind?
