THE YARD'S THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODEL · LINE BY LINE

What you see being traced is the drawing of the 4.80, not a convenient silhouette: the hull, the run of the tubes, the console in the middle. The moulds of the NAVYs are designed by Italian engineers and designers, and this is the smallest one they draw.

TAV. 04 — Licence-free · the rule, in full

The sea
without a licence

Within 6 miles of the coast

ARTICLE 39 OF THE ITALIAN BOATING CODE · SEA AND INLAND WATERS

In Italy no boating licence is needed to navigate within 6 miles of the coast, and on inland waters, if the engine stays under the legal limits. Beyond 6 miles a licence is always required, whatever the engine: it is the distance, before the horsepower, that makes the rule.

No more than 30 kW, that is 40.8 hp

POWER AND DISPLACEMENT, TOGETHER · FOUR-STROKE OUTBOARD UP TO 1,000 CC

The limit applies to power and displacement together: 30 kW, equal to 40.8 hp, and for a four-stroke outboard 1,000 cubic centimetres. That is why the 40 hp outboard is the choice of those without a licence: we check power and displacement on the papers of the engine you choose, before writing them into the quote.

Up to 6 people, in 4.80 metres

BOW SUNPAD · SEAT IN FRONT OF THE CONSOLE · STERN BENCH

Four cushions at the bow, the seat in front of the console, the bench at the stern: 6 real places, with the teak-effect deck underfoot. It is the boat for a family day along the coast, not for a crossing.

From 16 years of age, because it is a natante

SMALL PLEASURE CRAFT · HULL UP TO 10 METRES · NO COMPULSORY REGISTRATION

With a hull under 10 metres the NAVY 4.80 is, under Italian law, a natante da diporto, a small pleasure craft: to drive it without a licence, within the engine limits, you need to be 16, and there is no obligation to register it. With its CE marking it navigates within the limits of its design category and in any case no further than 12 miles from the coast.

TAV. 05 — Planing · Naviglia vision

Light, it gets up
in a moment

With 300 kilos dry the 4.80 is a light boat, and in the film you see it planing: the bow lifts just a little, the wake opens, and underfoot the fibreglass V hull cuts the chop instead of slamming it. It is the RIB that teaches you the sea along the coast is more than enough.

TAV. 06

NAVY 4.80 — in brief

What it is,
in a few lines

The NAVY 4.80 is a rigid inflatable boat of 4.80 metres overall and 1.82 of beam, with a centre console, a bow sunpad and a roll bar at the stern. It carries up to 6 people, weighs 300 kilos dry, has a 60 litre fuel tank and takes outboards up to 70-80 hp. Hull, deck and console are in fibreglass with increased thicknesses, in white or black; the tubes are 48 centimetres in diameter and made of ORCA fabric by Pennel & Flipo, Hypalon-neoprene 1.3 millimetres thick. The list price reads «from €13,924 + VAT · engine not included»: every 4.80 is fitted out to order, one at a time, and delivered to the harbour you tell us or to your home.

Naviglia vision: the NAVY 4.80 at anchor in a granite cove, on clear turquoise water, seen from above with the shadow of the hull on the sand
FIG. 01 — Naviglia vision: the 4.80 at anchor in a few feet of water, with the anchor line dropping straight from the bow fitting.
  • Licence-free, with the right engine. Within 6 miles of the coast, with an outboard that stays under 30 kW (40.8 hp) and the displacement limits, no boating licence is needed in Italy: the 40 hp is the choice of those who do not have one, and on the 4.80 it is the power we recommend.
  • It tows on an ordinary trailer. At 1.82 metres of beam the 4.80 stays well within the 2.55 metre road width limit: the 5 metre trailer is in the price list, and you take the boat wherever you like.
  • Made to measure, one at a time. We do not build stock runs: the colour of the tubes, the shade of the deck, the upholstery and the engine are your decisions, and your 4.80 is born with those choices on it, in about three months from the confirmation of the order.

Technical data

Every value comes from the yard's data sheet. Where a figure has not yet been confirmed, such as the number of air chambers in the tubes or the recommended power, the row does not appear: better one row fewer than a number made up. Design category C means the boat is designed for winds up to force 6 inclusive and a significant wave height up to 2 metres inclusive.

TAV. 08 — Chapter 01 · The hull

A V that cuts,
not one that slams

Fibreglass · increased thicknesses · white or black

Under the tubes there is a fibreglass V hull, and on a 4.80 metre RIB it is the hull that decides how you feel on board when the sea gets up a little. The V enters the wave and opens it; a flat hull slams down on it. Hull, deck, stern platforms and console are in fibreglass with increased thicknesses: the moulds are designed by Italian engineers and designers, lamination is done by hand or by infusion and the finish is a marine gelcoat that holds its colour under sun and salt.

You choose the fibreglass in white or in black, inside and out: it changes the character of the boat even before the tubes do. In the pictures on this page the 4.80 is almost always light; in person, in glossy black, it looks like another boat. It is one of the things worth seeing for yourself.

TAV. 09 — Chapter 02 · The tubes

ORCA fabric,
1.3 millimetres

Pennel & Flipo · Hypalon-neoprene · Ø 48 cm · 29 colours

The tubes of the 4.80 are 48 centimetres in diameter and made of ORCA fabric by Pennel & Flipo, the French company that has been making rubberised fabrics for more than a hundred years. It is Hypalon-neoprene: an outer layer that stands up to sun, salt and hydrocarbons, inner layers of neoprene that hold the air, a polyester core in between, with a tensile strength above 500 daN over 5 centimetres. The thickness is 1.3 millimetres, the same as every NAVY up to the 7.60.

Each tube is cut, glued with two-part adhesives, hand-welded at the joints that work hardest, pressure-tested and inspected piece by piece before it goes onto the hull. As standard you have it in three colours, Deep Night, White Stone and Navy Blue; the others in the sample book, 29 in all, are ordered with the boat. The NAVY 480 lettering on the tube is in relief, not printed.

TAV. 10 — Chapter 03 · The deck

Teak underfoot,
standard or real

Non-slip EVA foam · 24 shades · natural teak on request

The deck of the 4.80 comes as standard in EVA foam synthetic teak: stain-resistant, non-slip even when wet, lighter and softer than wood, and it asks for no oiling or sanding, just a rinse. Planks and seams are chosen from the 24 shades of the sample book, from light teak with a black seam to the greys and the patterns; the covering is cut to the geometry of the boat, steps and swim platforms included, and the Naviglia Yachts logo is engraved into the material, not stuck on top.

Those who want real wood will find it in the price list: the natural solid teak deck, 8 to 12 millimetres, laid with marine adhesive and a waterproofing layer on fibreglass panels, is an option at €3660 + VAT. Warm underfoot, stable when wet, and with the years it takes on the silver colour of boats that really go out.

TAV. 11 — Chapter 04 · The console

In the middle,
with everything to hand

Centre console complete with gauges · windscreen · forward seat

The console sits in the middle of the boat and comes complete with gauges: wheel, instruments, switches, the smoked windscreen with its polished steel grab rail. In front is the forward seat with the logo embroidered on the backrest; behind, the quilted helm bench. On a 4.80 a central helm is the right choice: you walk round the console on either side, you go from bow to stern without climbing over anyone and the weight stays in the middle of the boat.

Mechanical cable steering complete with engine cables is in the options list at €1110 + VAT, the all-stainless wheel with knob at €336 + VAT. Electronics, plotter or VHF, are not included in the price because there is no single right choice for everyone: we choose them together, and with a 40 hp along the coast you often need nothing more than what is already there.

TAV. 12 — Chapter 05 · The sunpad

Four cushions at the bow,
and the sun

Standard upholstery included · quilted Luxury line on request · 14 colours

At the bow four cushions form the sunpad, with the covered bow fitting and the grab handles along the tubes for climbing in and out of the water. The full upholstery comes as standard in the Standard line: smooth marine leatherette, treated against sun, salt and mould, easy to wash and still tidy after a whole summer. Those who want more choose the diamond-quilted Luxury line, with the diamond stitching that keeps the padding in place and the embroidered logo: on the 4.80 it is an option at €780 + VAT, in 14 sample-book colours.

The price list also has the extra cushions for the bow sunpad, at €1276 + VAT, which extend the sunbathing area almost to the console, and the boat cover, at €462 + VAT, for those who keep it out of the water between outings.

TAV. 13 — Chapter 06 · The stern

Roll bar, ladder,
and a single engine

Steel roll bar with navigation lights · folding ladder · swim platforms

At the stern the steel roll bar carries the navigation lights and is standard; those who prefer it in fibreglass, in the colour of the hull, will find it in the price list at €937 + VAT, and the stainless steel sun awning hooks onto it, at €1386 + VAT. The two swim platforms either side of the engine well are covered like the deck, and the folding steel ladder disappears when you are under way and goes down into the water when you stop; for climbing back over the tubes there is the Easyenter ladder, at €552 + VAT.

The engine is a single outboard, up to 70-80 hp; underneath are the bilge pump, the automatic bilge pump and the 60 litre tank. For towing skis or an inflatable there is the water-sports tow pole, at €340 + VAT. Everything fitted at the stern is there to be seen, and touched, in person.

TAV. 14 — The engines for the 4.80

A single outboard.
The make is your choice.

Honda, Yamaha and Mercury are the outboards we fit to the NAVYs, and on the 4.80 the choice is between three makes and a handful of horsepower: the 40 hp for those without a licence, more for those who have one and want to plane fully loaded, up to the 70-80 hp allowed by the catalogue. The engine is not included in the list price, but we quote it together with the boat, fitted and tested, so you have the final figure in front of you. If you already own an outboard, we assess it on the model: the plate data is all we need.

With the 40 hp we recommend up to the 6 metre: in the NAVY range that means the 4.80, the 5.50 or the 6.00. On the 4.80, the smallest of the three, the 40 hp is the request we receive most often.

€16,987.28 incl. 22% Italian VAT

Prices are net: they are quoted without VAT and without the engine, which is chosen separately according to the use you want to make of the boat. Next to the price you always find the amount with Italian VAT at 22% already worked out, because that is where misunderstandings start. A NAVY is bought with or without an engine: make and power are your decision, we quote it together with the boat, fitted and tested, so you have the final figure in front of you.

The price of the 4.80 includes the console complete with gauges, the steel roll bar with navigation lights, the rear folding ladder, the Standard upholstery, the teak-effect deck, the 60 litre tank, the bilge pumps and the repair kit. The 5 metre trailer is a separate accessory, at €3690 + VAT; the cost of transport, if we deliver to the harbour or to your home, is written into the quote.

The 4.80 is built to order: about three months from the confirmation of the order. If you are looking for a boat that is ready, ask us which NAVYs are in stock today: when there is one, delivery is within 7 working days of confirmation. Payment is in three steps, a deposit on confirmation, stage payments during construction and the balance on delivery, by bank transfer; the documents are the deposit invoice, the sales contract and the delivery report.

The boat can be financed, including through marine leasing, and we are glad to value your used boat in part exchange: we need the year, where the boat is kept and a few photographs of tubes, deck and engine. Up to 15 years' warranty.

The questions we get about the 4.80

Frequently asked
questions

The 4.80 is the NAVY we receive most enquiries about, and the questions are nearly always the same: the price, the engine, the licence, the trailer, the lead time. Here are the answers we give in person. One at a time: open one and the other closes.

How much does the NAVY 4.80 cost?

The list price of the NAVY 4.80 reads «from €13,924 + VAT · engine not included»: with VAT worked out that is €16,987.28 incl. 22% Italian VAT. The price includes the console complete with gauges, the steel roll bar with navigation lights, the rear ladder, the Standard upholstery, the teak-effect deck, the 60 litre tank, the bilge pumps and the repair kit. The engine, the options and the trailer are added item by item in the quote.

Can the NAVY 4.80 be driven without a licence?

Yes, with the right engine. In Italy, within 6 miles of the coast no boating licence is needed if the outboard does not exceed 30 kW (40.8 hp) and the displacement limits set by law, which for a four-stroke outboard are 1,000 cc. That is why on the 4.80 we recommend the 40 hp to those who have no licence. You need to be 16; beyond 6 miles a licence is always required, whatever the engine.

What engine does the 4.80 need, and which make?

The 4.80 takes outboards up to 70-80 hp according to the catalogue. Those without a licence fit the 40 hp, which is the power we recommend on the 4.80; those with a licence can go up. The makes we fit to the NAVYs are Honda, Yamaha and Mercury: you choose, and we quote the engine together with the boat, fitted and tested. If you already own an outboard, we assess it on the model: the plate data is all we need.

How many people does the NAVY 4.80 carry?

Up to 6 people, in design category C: it is the number on the builder's plate and in the owner's manual. Category C means the boat is designed for winds up to force 6 inclusive and a significant wave height up to 2 metres inclusive. On board the places are the bow sunpad, the seat in front of the console, the helm bench and the stern bench.

Does the 4.80 tow on an ordinary trailer?

Yes. The 4.80 is 1.82 metres wide and weighs 300 kilos dry: it stays well within the 2.55 metre width limit of the Italian Highway Code, so it travels on an ordinary trailer without permits for exceptional transport. The price list includes the trailer for 5 metre boats, at €3690 + VAT; which driving licence you need to tow it depends on the combined weight of car and trailer, and we tell you in the quote.

How long does it take to get a 4.80?

The 4.80 is built to order, made to measure, one at a time: about three months from the confirmation of the order. When a 4.80 is already built, delivery is within 7 working days of confirmation: ask us which NAVYs are in stock today. We do not promise dates we cannot keep: when you order, we tell you how things really stand.

What is standard and what is optional on the 4.80?

Standard are the centre console complete with gauges, the steel roll bar with navigation lights, the rear folding steel ladder, the full upholstery in the Standard line, the EVA foam teak-effect deck, the 60 litre tank, the bilge pump, the automatic bilge pump and the repair kit, with the tubes in one of the three standard colours. The options in the price list are thirteen, plus the trailer: from the rubbing strake with four extra handles to natural teak, from the quilted Luxury upholstery to the stainless steel sun awning. You will find them all, with prices, in the table above.

Can I choose the colours of the 4.80?

Yes, and that is the beauty of a boat built to order. The fibreglass of hull, console and roll bar is white or black; the tubes come as standard in Deep Night, White Stone or Navy Blue, and with the «colour change» option you choose among the 29 of the ORCA sample book; the teak-effect deck has 24 shades and the Luxury upholstery 14 colours. The catalogue has eight combinations already drawn on the 4.80: you can see them in the selector on this page, and touch the real samples in person.

How is the NAVY 4.80 built and how much warranty does it have?

Hull, deck, stern platforms and console are in fibreglass with increased thicknesses, with moulds designed by Italian engineers and designers; the tubes are in ORCA fabric by Pennel & Flipo, Hypalon-neoprene 1.3 mm thick, 48 centimetres in diameter, glued by hand and pressure-tested one by one. Every 4.80 is built to measure, without an assembly line. We are so sure of our work that the warranty runs up to 15 years.
